District Highlights 2016

The Board of Supervisors, with the assistance of office personnel, provides educational and technical conservation information and activities throughout White County. 

The district annual meeting for 2016 was held February 21, 2017 at the White County Fairgrounds. Guest speaker was Jenna Blue, regional manager for LaCrosse Seed. She spoke on soil health and cover crops.

In conjunction with Carroll County SWCD, the district held a Bi-County Soils Conservation Workshop.

Co-hosted the North Central (Indiana) Regional “Envirothon” student competition at Camp Buffalo.

Worked with Purdue Extension Office and others to present the annual 4th Grade Ag Day at the county fairgrounds.
We participated with Monticello Parks Department in Earth Day activities at the Monticello City Park. District’s hands-on display highlighted the importance of pollinators in agriculture.

In partnership with Fulton and Pulaski counties, completed the third and final year of a Clean Water Indiana (CWI) Cover Crop Grant.

We staffed an informational pollinator seed planting booth at the Monticello Farmer’s Market.

The district awarded Outdoor Education Grants to five White county schools.

Administered a Lake and River Enhancement (LARE) grant to help landowners/producers in the Big Pine Creek watershed install conservation practices.

White County participated for the second year in “INfield Advantage,” a free program that assists growers in fine-tuning their nutrient management practices.

The 23rd Annual RC&D River Expedition in Tippecanoe River State Park was held overcarrying_raft 6 days in mid- September. Over 450 students from ten Indiana counties participated in the event. The program is designed to teach students about the history, geology, and environmental quality of the Tippecanoe while paddling down the river.
